It’s hard to praise the food of Europe too highly - and in Yorkshire we have many examples of fine European food from which to choose. The flavours of garlic and olive oil, the succulence of the meats and rich flavour of the vegetable, the pastas and pizzas in European cuisine have long seduced us. Europe remains one of our favourite holiday destinations but there is no need to travel far to experience the taste of the very best of Continental eating, it is available to us throughout our region.

OLIVER had never even heard of Del Verde before a sign popped up on a road driven along several times a week.
Intrigued by the idea of a hitherto unknown restaurant in a familiar area of the city, the decision was made to check it out. But after driving into the car park and surveying the eatery’s exterior, that plan was nearly cancelled. Thankfully, the temptation to drive off and find somewhere else was quelled, and the result was an excellent meal.
To get the negatives out of the way, the outside area needs some work. The front of the building looks a bit shabby, and more like it should be the rear. And the narrow corridor through which the customers walk looks more like a service route than a diners' first introduction to an upmarket establishment.
Casa Mia Grande
A FEW hours before visiting Casa Mia Grande, Oliver had the misfortune to experience the very worst the British brand of customer service has to offer.
But that really is splitting hairs, overall the Casa Mia Grande continues to eclipse almost every other dining experience in Leeds.
Kendell's Bistro
I’M not sure what to make of
this restaurant. I could start by
telling you the food there is
simply divine, that the
atmosphere is pure Parisian and
the welcome so warm and cosy
you’ll wish they had a comfy sofa
and a duvet so you didn’t have to
go back home after the meal.
I could go on to say that I really didn’t
expect to find such a fine dining outlet
tucked away next to The
Wardrobe, down by West
Yorkshire Playhouse. I could
even go as far as saying it’s
a place I would return to,
because I would.

La Grillade
LA Grillade is the kind of restaurant featured in Howard's Way, remember the 1980s popular drama series giving us a taste of the high life of rich playboys and girls?
La Tasca
At the moment, the Yorkshire summertime is leaving a lot to be desired - but for a splash of sunshine on a rainy day, look no further than La Tasca.
The colourful Spanish venue on Greek Street, Leeds, is bound to put a spring back in your step if the wet weather is getting you down (quite literally if you take up the venue's salsa classes).
The Olive Tree
You can't really pick a better spot than this in north Leeds.
Smack bang on the leafiest section of Harrogate Road this branch of The Olive Tree is set some way from the main throng of restaurants and bars which have made this corner of the city come alive at night.
The beauty of this Greek restaurant is that it somehow absorbs all the atmosphere of Chapel Allerton while protecting you from the some of the more lairy elements.
Kendells Bistro
"It's a comfortable, open plan setting while retaining a certain cosiness thanks to soft lighting and warm colours. It's also refreshingly unpretentious and relaxed which makes it a great place to have a meal that can last the entire evening. The setting is fairly informal and, as it sits near to the BBC offices, Leeds College of Music and West Yorkshire Playhouse, is bound to attract journalists, theatricals and trendsetters".
